TiVo Inc. recently unveiled its ultimate digital video recorder (DVR) dubbed as the TiVo Mega, according to USA Today.
The Mega has a recording capacity of up to 24 terabytes. This allows the device to record around 4,000 hours worth of high-definition programs. This is equivalent to three years worth of recorded programs in standard definition format.
TiVo's latest device is designed to be mounted on a component rack. Users can stream contents from the DVR to their personal devices such as smartphones and tablets even when their outside the home.
The Mega can also serve as the entire home's DVR system. It can support multiple users watching various programs in different rooms.
The Mega comes with a remote but users can control the device through a free app from TiVo on their tablets or smartphones.
According to TiVo's chief marketing officer Ira Bahr, the Mega is for television-lovers who don't want to let go of their favorite programs, CNN reported.
"Size matters," Bahr said in a statement. "People hate being forced to delete cool stuff from their DVR before they want to or finding a TV show they had recorded is now gone."
"Now, with TiVo Mega they can always know their show or movie is still there to watch later," he continued. "TiVo Mega offers more than twelve times the storage of any cable or satellite DVR. TiVo Mega is the solution for the power user who wants to record everything."
The prototype of the TiVo Mega will be unveiled this week during the CEDIA Expo happening in Denver. TiVo's latest product will be available to the product during the first quarter of 2015, according to a press release from TiVo's site.
Although its final price will be revealed in the next couple of months, consumers can expect the Mega to be sold at a retail price of $5,000. This includes product lifetime services from TiVo.
