"It isn't rape if the victim is unconscious," singer and producer CeeLo Green said on Twitter Sunday, pertaining to a felony charge to which he recently entered a "no contest" plea, according to The Guardian.
Green, 40, pleaded no contest on Friday to a charge of furnishing ecstasy to a woman at a dinner date in July 2012. He was sentenced to three years probation and 45 days community service.
The woman had also accused Green, whose real is name is Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, of raping her that night, but prosecutors didn't find enough evidence to file a rape charge, The Guardian reported last year.
The Grammy-winning singer spoke about the felony case in a series of tweets when he was engaged regarding the matter. His tweets included "People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!"
The woman who filed the charges had said she had no recollection of the period between the dinner and waking up naked in the singer's bed.
"If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously! So WITH Implies consent," said another of Green's tweets.
Not long after the exchange with other Twitter users, he deleted his messages and sent out a statement of apology via another series of tweets, which BuzzFeed compiled.
"Let me 1st praise god for exoneration fairness and freedom! Secondly I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out context," one of his tweets read.
"I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it was your support that got me thru this to begin with. I'd never condone the harm of any women. Thank you," his last tweets said.
After tweeting the last message, he deleted his Twitter account altogether. A user, however, took screenshots of some of the tweets and re-posted them on the microblogging site.
