Apple will indeed be hosting a big event on September 9, but those who believe they will be seeing a wearable device from the Cupertino-based company may have to wait until next year.
Industry observers are expecting to see two new models of the iPhone 6 to be unveiled on September 9, as Apple has confirmed the date and the event, USA Today reports. However, recent reports from Re/code indicate that although a wearable device might be announced at the event, the actual release could be postponed until next year.
"Sources in position to know tell me it won't arrive at market for a few months. So when does Apple plan to ship its eagerly anticipated wearable? That's not clear, but my understanding is that we're unlikely to see it at retail until after the holiday season - think early 2015," writes John Paczkowski of Re/code.
This means those who are expecting to be able to purchase an Apple wearable for the holiday season will be disappointed.
Eli Blumenthal of USA Today says "it's not unprecedented for Apple when it comes to the introduction of major new products. The original iPhone was released six months after it's unveiling in 2007, while the original iPad shipped three months after it was announced in 2010."
The delay could also be blamed on manufacturing difficulties, as suggested by securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
MacRumors reported a statement from Ming-Chi saying, "We reiterate our view that iWatch, as compared to existing products, and as Apple's (US) first attempt at a wearable device, represents a much higher level of difficulty for the company as regards component and system design, manufacturing and integration between hardware and software."
"While we are positive on iWatch and believe that the advantages of the design and business model behind it are difficult to copy, we think, given the aforementioned challenges, that the launch could be postponed to 2015," Ming-Chi added.
