First-time Emmy Awards host Seth Meyers received praises from audiences at Monday night's show.
Prior to the show, Meyers walked on the red carpet and explained that his jokes and style of hosting would not focus on taking stabs at individual actors and their respective shows, according to Seattle PI.
Instead, Meyers opted to focus on "what's happening in the world of television," he said. However, this wasn't really how Monday night's show turned out to be.
Meyers spoke about the recently conclude MTV Video Music Awards that bumped the 66th Emmy Awards from the usual Sunday schedule to Monday night, The Blaze reported.
"This year we're doing the Emmys on a Monday night in August - which, if I understand television, means the Emmys are about to get cancelled. We're doing the show on Monday in part because the MTV Music Awards were last night. That's right: MTV still has an awards show for music videos even though they no longer show music videos. That's like network TV holding an awards show and giving all the trophies to cable and Netflix. That would be crazy," he said.
At one point, the talk show host also poked fun on the Netflix series "Orange is the New Black" and said, "We had comedies that made you laugh, and comedies that made you cry - because they were dramas submitted as comedies."
Meyers also joked over the fact that the Emmys is his favorite awards show, Entertainment Weekly's Inside TV noted.
"I have to say, Emmys are my favorite awards show. Sure, the Golden Globes has alcohol, but everybody's always talking and moving around. Here, everyone sits silently in one place and waits for for the pills to kick in. Tonight, we are all Crazy Eyes," he said.
Meyers also took a jab at HBO when he said, "Congratulations to HBO. They have 99 nominations tonight, the most of any network. Not to be outdone, NBC is also a network."
