"The Colbert Report" has won the 2014 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Series Monday, Aug. 25, at Nokia Theatre L.A. Live in Los Angeles.
But when Gwen Stefani, who presented the award along with fellow "The Voice" coach Adam Levine, pronounced Stephen's last name wrong, Jimmy Fallon hijacked the stage and said, "This is unbelievable, she said it wrong, so there must be a mistake. It's just very interesting. I want to see the envelope," according to Just Jared.
But Colbert, who was onstage with his team, let "The Tonight Show" host hold the trophy. And instead of giving his own acceptance speech, he pretended whispering the right things to say into Fallon's ear with the latter seemed to be repeating everything Colbert was saying, ABC News reported.
Fallon said: "Colbert, you guys are the greatest. We want to thank Comedy Central. Of course, they're great. I want to thank his wife and his children. They're just fantastic, everyone who's worked on the show for the last nine years...and you know who you are," according to E! News.
"If you don't know who you are, go to IMDb, it's very comprehensive," the funnyman added. "If you always wanted to work on the show and you don't have a chance now because it's ending, just put your name on IMDb and I'll back you up...Just call yourself, like a creative consultant."
"Don't make me say that!" Fallon scolded Colbert. "You're in trouble!"
After that, Colbert finally surrendered the mic to Colbert, who then gave a short speech about how great it was for him to host his Comedy Central show that is ending at the end of this year after its nine-year run.
"Thanks so much for giving us this award," Colbert said. "We want to thank Jon Stewart again."
"We want to thank everyone one who's not on this stage who's back [in New York]. Our writers won last week. I'm so proud of those guys and one woman," he added. "Sorry for that, for some reason, he said with a shrug.
He then said he loves his family, before blowing his wife Evelyn a kiss.
