Elizabeth Vargas seems to have a number of battles unfolding before her lately. For one thing, aside from her battle against her addiction to alcohol she now has another serious problem to face and that is divorcing her husband of 12 years, singer-songwriter Marc Crohn, People first reported.
After making headlines for her shocking revelation in November about her decades-long battle with her addiction to alcohol, the 20/20 anchor has recently announced that she is checking into a rehab facility once again to obtain professional help.
Vargas reportedly decided to enter the facility while on vacation this past weekend, according to CNN.
"As so many other recovering alcoholics know, overcoming the disease can be a long and incredibly difficult process," the 51-year-old television personality said in a statement. "I feel I have let myself, my co-workers and most importantly my family down and for that I am ashamed and sorry."
The award-winning ABC World News anchor didn't indicate how long she'll be staying in the rehab facility, but she maintained that she is willing to get professional treatment until she gets completely sober.
"I am committed to battling and addressing this debilitating disease and want to thank everyone who has offered their unwavering support during this trying time," she added in her statement.
Additionally, Vargas admitted that her battle with alcohol addiction has taken a toll on her relationship to her husband, Grammy Award-winning American folk rock singer Marc Crohn, as well as her relationship with their sons: Zachary, 11, and Samuel, 8, Daily Mail has learned.
"I feel I have let myself, my co-workers and most importantly my family down and for that I am ashamed and sorry," Vargas noted in her statement.
Unfortunately, despite Vargas' determination to finally become sober, a source close to her and her family revealed she and her husband have decided to end their longtime marriage.
"Marc and Elizabeth are in divorce proceedings," said a source. "The kids are with him in New York while she seeks treatment."
Although they are already a few steps from divorcing, Crohn maintains that he is still in support of the mother of his sons.
"On behalf of Elizabeth's family, we are in total support of her recovery and want her to be well," the 55-year-old "True Companion" singer, who is currently taking a break from his tour, said in a statement.
Meanwhile, ABC also issued a statement showing it is supporting Vargas in her decision to enter a rehab facility.
"Nothing is more important than Elizabeth's health and well-being and we stand squarely behind her," the network said through ABC spokeswoman Heather Riley. "Our thoughts are with Elizabeth and her family and we look forward to having her back at ABC News when she feels ready to return."
