Filming of the third season of the historical drama series "Vikings" is currently underway, and while fans wait for its return on History Channel in summer 2015, some of the cast members recently dropped some teasers about the series' upcoming installment during their appearance at last month's San Diego Comic-Con.
In an interview with Yahoo! TV at this year's entertainment and comic convention, Alexander Ludwig, who plays the role of Bjorn, said that the show is "only getting grittier" and he thinks that is the reason why fans are hooked with it right now.
Katherine Winnick, who portrays Lagertha in the show, agreed with Ludwig's statement, saying, "Season 3 is even more epic than Season 2."
"If you thought you loved Season 2, Season 3 just takes it to a whole new level," teased the 36-year-old Canadian actress, before adding how brutal some fight scenes in Season 3 are. "We had some shield maidens last year that went into full-on martial arts training just to understand how to hold a sword properly, just so they could be background actors," she added.
While those details sound pretty exciting, the revelation that a fan-favorite character will meet his/her demise in the upcoming season made fans sad.
"We just lost one of our favorite people," Clive Standen, who plays the ruthless and skilled warrior Rollo, said during the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con without dropping the character's name, Zap2it reported. The panel, in fact, revealed that they just filmed the death scene before flying to San Diego.
As for the character who will be killed off, the only clue they gave is that the actor who played the role was not present on the pop convention's panel, which included, Ludwig, Winnick, Standen and Travis Fimmel.
Kevin Durand told Entertainment Tonight Canada that he will be appearing on the third season of "Vikings" and teased that his character might have something to do with the death of the fan-favorite character.
"Do you know how that happens?" said Durand, who currently plays Vasiliy Fet in "The Strain." "Did you know that I was there? When the person dies ...yeah, I'm on Vikings... it might have been my fault..."
When pressed for more details about his role in the Nordic drama, Durand, who is a big fan of the show, said that Michael Hirst, creator of "Vikings," has written a mysterious wanderer character for him. "He may wreak havoc, he might not. He might just be a poet," he said of his character.
