Real Self recently reported that a great smile is important to Americans - especially when it comes to dating.
In a national survey recently conducted on behalf of Match.com, results confirm what we reported in our story on oral care and dating -- that when judging a potential date, both men and women rate teeth as the most important factor.
Helen Fisher, a research professor at Rutgers University who helped develop the survey, wasn't surprised that teeth came out on top. "From a Darwinian perspective, good teeth are a real indication of your health - how much you drink, smoke, what you're eating," she explained.
It's clear that single Americans take their smiles very seriously. Can we blame them? There's just something about a great smile that's appealing, healthy-looking and super sexy!
So what city comes out on top when it comes to keeping their grills the greatest?
According to new findings from RealSelf, residents of cities in California and Texas are more invested in improving their smiles than the rest of the country.
Analyzing millions of consumer searches, RealSelf ranked US cities based on their collective interest in more than a dozen smile-enhancing procedures including lip augmentation, Invisalign, porcelain veneers, and teeth whitening.
Of the top ten cities, four are located in California (San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, San Jose). Three of the top cities are located in Texas (Austin, San Antonio, Dallas) making these cities and states the best spots to find smooch-worthy smiles. Other cities that made the top 10 are Seattle, Oklahoma City, and Denver:
