It looks like Katie Holmes is happily moving forward following her divorce from Tom Cruise. It has been almost exactly two years since their split and the actress is focused on her career and daughter Suri Cruise.

According to Us Weekly, the brunette beauty stopped by the "Today" show on Wednesday, August 6th to promote her new movie "The Giver."

When describing herself to anchor Matt Lauer, the actress said, "I'm a risk-taker," adding, "I love adventures and new things."

In her upcoming movie which is based on Lois Lowry's popular young adult novel, of the same name, Katie Holmes plays the unnamed mother of the main character Jonas, portrayed by Brenton Thwaites.

When speaking of her role in the film, the 35-year-old revealed, "I approached it like all mothers when their child is leaving the nest."

Holmes explained, "There's a pain. There's a loss. That's how I approached the character."

When speaking with Holmes, Lauer noted, "For several years, you were a very hardworking actress who became uber-famous for other reasons completely."

While the actress was popular due to her role on the '90s drama "Dawson's Creek," she rose to A-list status during her marriage to Tom Cruise from 2006 to 2012.

Lauer asked Katie Holmes, "Do you ever think you would make a deal and trade some of that fame to go back to that person you were beforehand?"

To which the actress responded, "You know what?"

"I never really look back. I just approach life [taking] it one day at a time. I'm really excited about where I am right now. I've had some really wonderful creative experiences. I'm just really grateful."

The actress is doing her best to raise her 8-year-old daughter to the best of her abilities although she admitted that she was unable to give her the "gift of normalcy" that she had growing up in Ohio.

The Manhattan resident told Lauer, "Of course you try your best. I try very hard because I'm very grateful for my upbringing, my parents, my siblings. I try to do what they did for me for my little one."

Katie Holmes added, "The most important thing for me is letting her know how proud I am and her accomplishments mean everything. Whatever I do is whatever. It's really just about her. That's what I think is most important."
