Whether it was 5 pounds of 150 pounds, weight loss is a victory for individuals. However, those with a recent massive weight loss face an unfortunate irony.
While they worked so hard to improve their lives and lose weight, it's met with deflated bodies and excessive skin.
After reading about these great transformations, we tapped Chicago-based board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Peter Geldner who says body contouring procedures are an ideal solution for patients with extreme weight loss.
"After major weight loss, excess skin typically remains around a number of areas including the neck, upper arms, breasts, abdomen and thighs, which tends to make the body shape look irregular," Dr. Geldner told us.
"While not all massive weight loss patients want or need extensive procedures to improve their bodies, many do for esthetic purposes, emotional well-being and physical reasons."
So after all that hard work, check out what can be done to tighten loose skin:
Face and Neck Lift. Facial improvements for weight loss patients tend to involve the neck and lower face.
These procedures may include raising the cheek pads, correcting jowls and removing loose and sagging skin around the face and neck. The incisions are placed in front of and behind the ears, making them practically invisible.
Arm Lifts. Also known as a brachioplasty, this procedure removes the excess skin and fat deposits on the upper arm that typically become loose and flabby.
"Be cautious of where the arm lift is being performed as lifts from the armpit only are lousy. There will be a scar, but the only good price for a contour is a scar," Dr. Geldner warned.
