It has officially been ten years since the epic love story "The Notebook" made its debut to the big screen on June 25, 2004.
According to Us Weekly, at the time little known actors Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams were suddenly thrust into the spotlight after the film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' novel hit theaters.
Ten years later, the two stars who were dating each other off and on have made their names in Hollywood nabbing roles that made them major movie stars after capturing audiences by telling the story of Noah and Allie.
However, prior to displaying their perfect chemistry on screen, director Nick Cassavetes went through an extensive process trying to find the perfect leading lady for Gosling.
Cassavetes said, "Some of them were really, really great," seeing as "very well-known" actresses auditioned for the role.
However, he revealed, "When Miss McAdams came in and read, it was became clear that she was 'the one.'"
Rachel McAdams' agent arranged for her to audition for "The Notebook." At the time, Nick Cassavetes said, "I didn't know who she was."
Prior to landing the role, the future "Mean Girls" star was a "last-minute addition" to the audition process and read lines for the scene where Allie tells Noah she's leaving to return to her fiancé.
Reflecting on the past nights the two have spent together she says to Gosling who is reading his lines off to the side, "They were wonderful and they were very irresponsible."
In the featurette, McAdams confessed, "I read the script the night before and bawled my eyes out," adding, "It was the best audition experience I've ever had."
Her now ex-boyfriend Ryan Gosling revealed, "She left, and Nick and I just gave each other a hug."
