Melissa McCarthy may be confident now, but it took awhile to get there! The "Tammy" actress cover's this week's issue of People, and in a piece titled "My Journey From Tears To Triumph," she opens up about past image struggles.
"In my 20s I used to cry about why I wasn't thinner or prettier, but I want to add that I also used to cry about things like: 'I wish my hair would grow faster. I wish I had different shoes ...,'" McCarthy told the mag.
"I was an idiot ... It's a decade of tears."
She then added, "I've never felt like I needed to change. I've always thought, 'If you want somebody different, pick somebody else.' But sure, criticism can sometimes still get to me. Some things are so malicious, they knock the wind out of you."
The "Bridesmaids" actress also explains fans and critics are not as harsh on male celebrities.
"It's like I'm managing to achieve all this success in spite of my affliction," McCarthy jabbed at an article that called her "America's plus-size sweetheart."
"Would you ever put that in the headline for a male star?"
We told you last week McCarthy spoke about to Rolling Stone about her "self-destructive habits."
"I could eat healthier, I could drink less," McCarthy said. "I should be learning another language and working out more, but I'm just always saying, "Ah, I could get hit by a bus tomorrow."'
The star also launched a plus-size line after designers refused to dress her for the Oscars.
"When I go shopping, most of the time I'm disappointed. Two Oscars ago, I couldn't find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers - very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people - and they all said no," she told Redbook.
