Many fans are anxiously awaiting for "The Fault in Our Stars" starring Shailene Woodley to hit theaters because of the beautiful story told by Hazel Grace Lancaster, a 16-year-old terminal cancer patient who falls in love with another cancer patient in John Green's 2012 novel.
However Theo James's "Divergent" cast girlfriend recently admitted that she had her own reasons for taking on the role.
According to ABC News, the 22-year-old actress confessed that she was a fan of the books before she signed on for the movie.
She explained, "I didn't want to do this movie so I could be like, 'look how I can cry as an actor, look what I can do,'" adding, "I wanted to do this movie because the book changed my life."
Shailene Woodley's Hazel shares an ill fated love story with Ansel Elgort's Augustus "Gus" Waters after meeting in a cancer support group. The two quickly fall in love only to reach an end that doesn't involve a happily every after together.
The actress explained, "This movie is incredibly sad and incredibly heartbreaking, but it's so celebratory," adding, "It celebrates life."
Laura Dern, who was cast as Hazel's mother also read the book and agreed with her costar about just how great the novel is especially from Hazel's compelling first-person narrative.
She explained, "You can't help but fall in love with her, but you can also relate to her longing for love, to feeling, as she says, that she's a grenade and her job is to protect everybody else from her so they don't get hurt."
Dern could not help but praise Green for the book. She said, "I think he captured the voice of a generation and this is not a young adult novel," adding, "I think it's as important a book for any adult to read than any in a very long time."
"The Fault in Our Stars" is set to hit theaters on June 6th.
