Seth Meyers Set To Host 66th Primetime Emmys

Can Seth Meyers fill Neil Patrick Harris' shoes? NBC confirmed Thursday the new late-night host will also bring us the 66th annual Primetime Emmys!

Deadline reports the talk show host was submitted and approved by the TV Academy's Board of Governors, alongside Executive Producer Don Mischer.

"Seth's expertise and ease in front of a live audience during his time at SNL, as well as his comedic brilliance both as a writer and in front of the camera on SNL and Late Night, makes him the perfect choice to host the Emmys," NBC's head of alternative and late-night programming Paul Telegdy told the website. "Plus, with Don's vast experience at putting these type of big productions together, we'll be in great hands."

Meyers, 40, is the former head writer of "Saturday Night Live" and host of the "Weekend Update" segment. This will be his first time hosting an awards show at this level.

In the past, Meyers twice emceed the ESPY awards and the 2011 White House Correspondent's Dinner. The news of his hosting gig comes the same day he is named one of Time magazine's 100 Most Influential People. What an honor!

The funny man took over Jimmy Fallon's time slot earlier this year after his run with "Saturday Night Live" since 2001. He joins the hall of fellow "SNL" awards show hosts such as Fallon, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

There is a chance we may even see Meyers up for nominations for both "Saturday Night Live" and "Late Night."

Will he be able to live up to the rave reviews received by last year's host Neil Patrick Harris?

Mischer, who is no stranger to producing the awards show, re-assumed producer duties after last year being carried by CBS. Joining him are fellow producers Charlie Haykel and Julianne Hare.

Another twist in this year's Primetime Emmys is that they will take place, Monday, August 25, as opposed to the usual Sunday night show.
