Cuba Gooding Jr. And Wife Sara Kapfer Split After 20 Years Of Marriage

Sara Kapfer, high school sweetheart of Cuba Gooding Jr., has filed for divorce after 20 years of marriage. She cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason and requested joint physical and legal custody for their children.

According to TMZ, Kapfer filed this morning in L.A. County Superior Court. The pair wed back in 1994 and have three kids, Spencer, 19, Mason, 17, and Piper, 8. Child support arrangements will be set in place at a later date.

The split appears amicable yet comes as a shock, as the Oscar winner gushed last year to The View about his leading lady.

"She has been changing to this other woman that I have to introduce myself to every few years, and thank God I've fallen in love with each one. It's true. I'm lucky that way," he raved.

He also explained, "I got a wonderful lady that knows how to run the household even when I'm not there. [And] we're just blessed with wonderful kids."

However, Gooding also confessed it is tough to be away for work. He had to make it work with his family while starring in Broadway's "The Trip to Bountiful."

"When you do films, you're away from the family, but I can still fly them in or fly home to see them, so... my wife and I... have this rule - never go more than three or four weeks without seeing each other."

"But I knew this commitment meant that I would be in New York City for a long time; I'm here possibly through September, so it's a bit of a pull on that to keep the household together. But she allowed me to be indulgent for obvious reasons... This is a once in a lifetime opportunity."

It is unclear what caused Kapfer to file for divorce.
