Lifetime is making two productions about Versace, one of which will be a original scripted movie about Donatella Versace, and the other will be a documentary about her iconic brother, Gianni Versace.
The film will star Gina Gershon as Donatella Versace, Enrico Colantoni as Gianni Versace, Colm Feore as their brother Santo, and Raquel Welch as their Aunt Lucia.
The original movie is based on Wall Street Journal reporter Deborah Ball's book "House of Versace: The Untold Story of Genius, Murder, and Survival," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The book is about Donatella Versace's taking over as head designer of the fashion empire after her Gianni Versace's 1997 slaying. He was shot on the porch of his mansion.
Donatella Versace fell victim to drug addiction and nearly bankrupted the company, after being ridiculed by critics. Her family, including her Aunt Lucia, helped get her to rehab, and she eventually built up one of the most powerful fashion houses ever known.
The movie is produced and co-financed by MarVista Entertainment with Fernando Szew (Lifetime's Sexting in Suburbia), Ronald Gilbert (Every Thing Will Be Fine) and Robyn Snyder (16 Wishes) on board as executive producers.
The documentary, "Versace: Behind the Headlines," is an hour long, and covers Gianni Versace's start in the fashion industry to his rise to overseeing a multimillion dollar empire. The documentary also includes interviews with those who were close to him, as well as designers and a police detective who offers his insight into Versace's murder.
The movie is set to premiere on Lifetime on Saturday, October 5 at 8 p.m, the documentary will air at 10 p.m., following the movie.
