Meryl Streep and Robert De Niro are going to star in what will be their fourth collaboration together, "The Good House," an adaptation of the best-selling Ann Leary novel.
In the "dark comedy," Streep will play the lead as real estate agent Hildy Good, a barely recovering alcoholic whose life unravels when she begins a new friendship with Rebecca McCallister and rekindles with old flame Frank Getchell (De Niro), according to The Huffington Post.
The script will be written by Michael Cunningham, the Pulitzer Prize winning author of The Hours, one of the three Cunningham works in which Streep also starred.
FilmNation and Tribeca Productions will head up "House," according to a joint press release.
"We knew right away with [producer Jane Rosenthal's] and Michael's demonstrated talent and Ann's bestseller that we have the opportunity to create something truly entertaining," Karen Lunder, executive vice president of production at FilmNation, said in the press release. "It is undeniable the authenticity and chemistry Meryl and Bob will offer us as they bring these characters to life."
Rosenthal is De Niro's Tribeca production partner. She gave some more insight to the film.
"Ann Leary has an intoxicating voice and created a truly original character in Hildy Good," said Rosenthal. "When I read the book, I was only sorry it ended - but so thrilled that we'll be able to bring it to the screen with Meryl Streep as the irresistible Hildy. It's the perfect project to work on with Michael Cunningham and we are excited to be doing this in partnership with FilmNation, as they were equally passionate about Ann's characters."
Streep and De Niro have previously co-starred in 978's "The Deer Hunter," 1984's "Falling in Love" and 1996's "Marvin's Room."
