'Orange is the New Black' Netflix Hit Series Picked Up for Season 2, 'That 70's Show' Star Laura Prepon Reveals Details From Show and Spills Why Piper Kerman's Memoir is a Success

It looks like Netflix finally has another hit that they can be proud of seeing as their latest original series "Orange is the New Black" has become overwhelmingly popular with critics hailing the show  as one of the best dramas on the air right now.

The Washington Post reported that the series created by Jenji Kohan who also created "Weeds" follows the life of Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), who lives in New York City with her fiancé (Jason Biggs).

While in the[process of trying to launch her artisanal soap business into the mainstream market she is sentenced to 15-months in a federal prison in Litchfield, NY.

It is revealed that Chapman used to be a lesbian and date an international drug smuggler played by Laura Prepon while in her 20's. young and naïve she  later became a mule for her girlfriend, Alex.

 However, the past catches up with soap enthusiast 10-years later and she earns a prison sentence for her part in the illegal transportation.

Now Chapman is forced to leave her yuppie lifestyle and is placed in a fish-out-water experience of prison life where she learns about the social and racial segregation along with the hierarchy of women.

Throughout the series Chapman struggles to find her place in the prison social ladder, all the while getting herself into some sticky situations. The paper reports that the show is based on the memoir of Piper Kerman, who really did date a drug smuggler and was sentenced to 15 months as a result.

With so much success actress Laura Prepon recently admitted that she felt intimidated by her role of Alex in the new series however, she revealed that it turned out to be a good thing, according to The Christian Science Monitor.

In a recent interview the actress revealed, "When I read it, it was so good but I was like, 'Wow, (the character) Alex scares me a little bit,' which is exactly why I needed to do it and I'm so glad that I did."

She said, "I feel like every actress is always looking to (push the envelope) because the minute you get complacent, hang it up."

The former "That 70's Show" star continued to say, "Anyone that sees the show they're like, 'Oh, there's nothing like this on TV.' Which there isn't and that's really cool."

The actress shed some light on what it is like working on the show, she said, "We wear like literally the federal prison-issue wardrobe.

"We're not allowed to wear a lot of makeup. ... There's a story line where I actually barter to get black eyeliner, so every inmate has their own kind of thing that individualizes them."

Initially Prepon was unsure how things would turn out working with mostly women, she said "I grew up with guys. I'm not used to hanging out with a bunch of chicks."

She continued to say, "My friends were like, 'What are you gonna do with all those women around?' But they're amazing. There's not one diva. Everyone is so cool."

"Orange is the New Black" season 1 is currently available to view on Netflix and has already been picked up for a second season.
