Marc Jacobs Designs Bags and Sunglasses: Now Launches First Makeup Line with Sephora, Refers to Cara Delevingne as a Dwarf?

Marc Jacobs has officially thrown his hat into the makeup ring, with the highly-publicized launch of his first cosmetics line with Sephora, set to exclusively debut on Aug. 9. on the beauty brand's website, and its stores as well as some of the designer's.

The famed designer, who has taken the fashion world by storm on several occasions, has produced a "Marc Jacobs Beauty" collection featuring a colorful palette. He used his "trademark wit" and "sharply defined aesthetic" in creating the line full of "concealor, inky-black liners, mini nail polishes" and more, according to Women's Wear Daily.

But again, swimming in uncharted waters does not come without risks.

"It is a strong statement and a brave move in a makeup category that has been traditionally hazardous for major designers, who have launched color collections and failed," read the story.

But the line is expected to start strong, producing an estimated around $15 million in North America retail sales from August through December 2013, reported WWD.

The line flaunts Jacobs' signature "elegant and whimsy" design sensibility, which makes Jacobs very happy.

"I'm surprised by how delighted I am with the results," he said to WWD early this month. "Now I want to see what the customer thinks. That's the ultimate."

The creative visionary had leaked the big news of a collection to the magazine last April. He and the Sephora team are very confident in the line, and believe in its future success, according to Refinery 29

"We spent a lot of time developing materials and choosing colors...the color palette tells a story and that story is based on a spirit," he said. "I chose different types of characters, such as an ingenue."

The line also features "bright colors and luxe finishes" that Jacobs hand-picked, down to the eyeliners and mascaras, which were inspired by a black lacquered table in his home.

But you will not find a nude color here.

"I don't like natural," he said. "That's a little lazy."

Jacobs is known for his outspoken opinions, once having said that model-of-the-moment, Cara Delevingne, 20, was a "dwarf" for being 5'9", according to the Daily Mail.

He even banned her from walking in his Fall/Winter 2012-13 shows because of her height and "looking awkward" among his models.
