With the 2013 BET Awards approaching it seems that Canadian rapper Drake is the front runner and fan favorite with 12 award nominations. The nominations were announced downtown Los Angeles by BET executives.
On Tuesday the network revealed that the Young Money member leads the list of nominees with 12 nods, followed by Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz both tied with 8 nods. A$AP Rocky received 5 nods, while Jay-z, Justin Timberlake and Miguel all have 4 nods.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Drake was nominated 5 times in the video of the year category, his singles "HYFR" and "Started from the Bottom" will compete against his collaborations with 2 Chainz ("No Lie"), Kendrick Lamar ("Poetic Justice") and A$AP Rocky ("Problems").
According to Billboard Chris Brown was there for the announcements and confirmed that he will be performing at the awards show. He also announced that he wrapped his music video "They Don't Know," which features vocals from the late Aaliyah.
R. Kelly is also said to perform and it is rumored that Kendrick Lamar will take the stage as well.
The 2013 BET Awards are set to air live on June 30th from the Nokia Theatre, with Chris Tucker hosting the ceremony.
