After two seasons NBC decided to cancel their Friday night Broadway drama "Smash." The network has also confirmed that the series "The New Normal" which was co-created by "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy will not be returning either according to the Los Angeles Times.
However the quirky comedy "Community" has bee renewed by NBC. According to the New York Times, the comedy "surely benefited from having NBC as one of its owners, but the comedy seemed to find some new legs late in its run this season."
"Smash" unfortunately could not find a leg to stand. Expectations of the show to be canceled were more than confirmed after the network moved the series to the dead zone of Saturday nights.
The former" American Idol" runner up, Katharine McPhee who starred in the show spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the inevitable conclusion of the fictional Broadway Drama.
"Sure, I wish that it could have five more seasons, but we had two great seasons and all I can say is I loved every moment of it."
"I loved getting to the set, I loved the people, I loved my crew. We did amazing things on the show in two years."
"Smash" like the show "The New Normal" received low ratings." The Ryan Murphy co-created series received less than 7 million views for the pilot episode and the numbers only decreased from there.
However NBC will be replacing the two shows by picking up more dramas, one of them being a much awaited Michael J. Fox drama in which the actor plays a version of himself, a dad with Parkinson's.
