"Pain and Gain" star Dwayne Johnson underwent an emergency hernia surgery on Monday night. The surgery was necessary due to three hernia tears the wrestler suffered from earlier this month during a match with fellow wrestler John Cena.
The 40-year old actor-wrestler missed the Los Angeles premiere of his new film "Pain and Gain" for the operation but the surgery was a success.
According to E! News the film's director, Michael Bay cited that Johnson missed the LA premiere because of the surgery, ""Dwayne's hurt tonight," Bay E! News on the red carpet. "He was pushing it too hard. [ He] needs to grow up and stop wrestling 300-pound men."
The star tweeted the above picture from the hospital bed with the caption," Surgery a success! Dr repaired 3 hernial tears (fun pain). Superman is on the mend.. #WeFallWeRise."
According to the LA Times, Johnson wrestled with Cena on April 7th at Wrestlemania 29 to defend his championship title but lost the match. Following the match the wrestler tweeted, "In the middle of last night's Wrestlemania match I tore my abdomen & abductor muscles off the bone. Just part of the job. But as we know..."
The wrestler continued to tweet, "But as we know... It's all about #JustBringIt. WWE Universe, THANK YOU for all the love & well wishes. Means everything to me. #LeaveItAllInTheRing."
A rep for Johnson told E! News that following the unexpected surgery the action star is at home recovering from his operation.
