NFL free agent running back Reggie Bush might be heading to Detroit to play for Lions, if free agency rumors hold up. According to reports, Bush and safety Glover Quin were in Detroit Wednesday to visit the Lions, who could use a versatile back who can carry the work load, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Quin last played for the Houston Texans, who drafted him in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft out of New Mexico. 27 and in the prime of his career, a Quin-Detroit connection would make sense for both parties.
With the Miami Dolphins, Bush ran for 1,086 yards in 2011. Last season, he ran for 986 yards, and he caught more than 50 passes in each of his previous three seasons. Considering Detroit's tendency to throw the ball a lot with WR Calvin Johnson, Bush's pass-catching ability would fit in well with the Lions' scheme.
"We're going to sit down and hash it out with my agent before making any decision," Bush said, according to the newspaper. "I'll meet with the coaches, and we'll go through the whole process with any team. It definitely does matter where I'll end up. I don't want to go anywhere blind. I want to know what I'm getting into and check out the facilities and see how I'll be used."
The former USC running back would also fair well in the Lions' indoor stadium with his open-field speed even faster on the indoor turf. Other reports indicate that the Arizona Cardinals the Cincinnati Bengals are looking to acquire him. The Washington Post reported Wednesday that the Washington Redskins have also expressed "some interest" in Bush, citing a source close to the situation.
Yahoo Sports reporter Jason Cole said on Tuesday that the Lions promised Bush he would be an every-down back if he signed with Detroit—something that analysts questioned of Bush's stature when he first entered the league from Southern California.
"Reggie has a tough decision to go through," a source close to Bush told Cole. "He's very careful about how he considers these situations. He asks a lot of questions and wants to know all the ins and outs about how a team wants to use him. But, you know, in his heart, he wants to play all the time."
