In 2006, American facial plastic surgeon and author William J. Binder published his initial study of then-38-year-old identical twins — where one opted a natural aging while the other prevented it by getting a botox.
Twin 1, had only tried getting Botox twice in her lifetime, in 1999 and 2003. She had it on her forehead and between her eyebrows, the glaberral region. Whereas, Twin 2 has been doing the cosmetic procedure twice or thrice a year since she was 21 years old in the same areas.
In a photo where both are captured at resting angle, Twin 1 showed "deeper forehead lines, as well as crow's feet lines." On the flip side, Twin 2, showcases smoother skin with lesser wrinkles.
In 2012, Binder made a follow-up study to reveal further insights on the impact of Botox by the time they reached 44 years old.
Here, Twin 1 showed a fuller face and jaw, the one who opted for natural aging, while Twin 2 still has less pronounced wrinkles around her eyes and mouth compared to the former.
@_bossaesthetics TWIN STUDY ð¯ââï¸ One comment reason people are hesitant about getting Botox is that they donât know the long term effects. Thatâs one reason why we love twin studies in the scientific community! This set of twins have the same genetics as well as the same environmental factors. The one major difference between them was that one twin received regular botox treatments throughout her lifetime while the other did not ðThe results are incredible! To ensure that the only factor that their skin and face will differ is Botox, the twins worked indoors and did outdoor activities by diligently using sunscreen. Both don't smoke nor any other skin-tightening procedures.
After 19 years, the plastic surgeon made his conclusion that Botox has a significant role in preventing the development of imprinted lines, both through targeting the muscles and modifying behavior.
