At this point, you don't need to be chronically online to know the so-called "Morning Shed" skincare routine. With over 70 million TikTok views, the videos containing the tag #morningshed has probably sneaked its way into your FYP, with women and their hair curled and faces smeared in beauty products in hopes to achieve their desired glow overnight.

This trend believes in the idea that "the uglier you go to bed, the prettier you wake up," which means you're going to daub your face with serum and/or cream, wrap it with a mask and mouth tape, and wake up with gorgeous skin and hair when the morning comes.

The thing is "morning shed" isn't just a buzzword, at least according to beauty enthusiasts on the video-sharing app. And it's actually not that hard to do the TikTok-famous beauty trend, as long as you have readily available products, of course.

Without further ado, here are the steps to do the "Morning Shed" skincare routine.

1. Opt for suitable products

Skincare expert Lesley Reynolds advised to use "non-comedogenic formulas" when doing the "Morning Shed" routine. She also green-lighted hypoallergenic products with niacinamide, antioxidants, peptides, and hyaluronic acid as these ingredients support the skin barrier.

2. Patch-test products before use

Beauty enthusiasts often do patch testing new beauty products to avoid potential allergic reactions and prevent its severity.

Reynolds advised, "Always perform a patch test on a small area (e.g., behind the ear) before full use to check for adverse reactions."

3. Layer properly

It's fundamental among skincare enthusiasts that applying products start from the thinnest to the thickest. This means one should begin with cleanser, then toner, serum, moisturizer, face oil (optional), and finally, face mask, which is left overnight.

5. Exercise cleanliness

Maintaining cleanliness, from hands to your face, is important in doing not just the "Morning Shed" trend but all kinds of skincare routine to avoid bacteria buildup.

In applying the products, also make sure to start with the basic steps before gradually adding new products.

6. Prioritize hydrating skin and barrier-repair

Reynolds recommended opting for "overnight-specific products that promote hydration and barrier repair." She went on to suggest items that contain glycerin, ceramides, and squalane.
