The world's oldest model is sharing her secrets to maintaining a youthful appearance.
Daphne Selfe, who started her modeling journey in 1949, boasts a career that spans seven decades.
She has worked with renowned brands and top fashion houses such as Dolce and Gabbana, Olay, and Eyeko. Moreover, she's graced the pages and the covers of magazines such as Vogue, PIBE, and Stella and appeared in several James Bond films.
According to The Telegraph, although Selfe experienced success as a model during her youth, her career really took off when she reached 70, showcasing her enduring beauty and defying age-related stereotypes. She was named the world's oldest model by Guinness World Records.
In a new interview with the outlet, Selfe, now 95, revealed how she has kept her youthful glow through the years.
Below are the insights gleaned from Selfe's beauty secrets.
1. Remove makeup every night before bed
Although Selfe doesn't wear much makeup nowadays, she stressed to The Telegraph the importance of consistently removing makeup before bed.
"I don't wear much makeup now, but if I do wear makeup, I always take it off at night," she told the outlet.
According to Dermatologica, sleeping with makeup on can result in clogged pores, dryness, skin irritation, aged appearance, and potential breakouts.
2. Use skincare products that suit your needs
When discussing skincare, the 95-year-old fashion industry vet emphasized that she doesn't need anything "fancy." She said she relies on Nivea products for her routine.
3. Drink plenty of water and get your "five a day"
Selfe prioritizes staying hydrated by consuming enough water throughout the day.
Additionally, the mother-of-three said she makes sure to consume her "five a day" or the recommended five servings of fruits and vegetables daily, with broccoli among her personal favorites.
As per BBC Good Food, the antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables play a crucial role in shielding the skin from cellular damage caused by free radicals, which can be triggered by smoking, pollution, and sunlight exposure.
While generally adhering to a healthy diet, Selfe makes it a point to savor foods she loves. Nonetheless, she maintains a moderate approach to eating, attributing her portioning habits to her upbringing during war times.
"Being brought up in the war, you couldn't eat too much anyway," she said. "And I think that stays with you."
The model expressed her fondness for champagne but said she only drinks it on special occasions.
"I like a glass of champagne," she told The Telegraph. "Only occasionally, if it's somebody's birthday. Or my birthday."
4. Spend time outdoors in nature
Apart from her skincare routine and healthy diet, Selfe emphasized the advantages of spending time outdoors in nature and soaking up plenty of vitamin D.
"I can't walk everyday now, but I used to," Selfe told the news outlet. "I've always had dogs and horses, meaning I've always had to go out."
