If you follow the rules of Halal in your daily life, you'll be interested to learn that there are now beauty brands that are Halal-certified. Hypebae writes that according to a Pew Research Center study, the Muslim population in the U.S. is estimated to reach a staggering 8.1 million by 2050. However, the availability of Halal beauty brands is still limited, and devout buyers have to source out products from other Islamic countries.
For the unfamiliar, Halal means "permissible" in Arabic. Safia Ghanim, operations manager and senior technical auditor at the ISWA Halal Certification Department tells Cosmopolitan that Halal makeup products are free from alcohol, pork or pork by-products like gelatin and blood. While the list of requirements to become Halal-certified is lengthy, Ghanim says that consumers can expect Halal cosmetics to be "clean, pure, hygienic, and healthy." As clean and vegan beauty is gaining popularity in the beauty industry, Halal beauty brands are a good place to start.
Here are Halal beauty brands that are now available in the US.
Amara Halal Cosmetics
Amara has everything that a beauty junkie could want — matte, satin and liquid lipsticks, eye and face makeup, nail polish, and makeup tools. Cosmopolitan likes the highly pigmented Moisture Rich Matte Lipstick Berry Red. Red lipstick is always in fashion and this is a good one to add to your arsenal.
