Liza Golden-Bhojwani took to her social media account to express the story about how she struggled to fit in the fashion industry where the models are needed to be skinny to get the job. She posted a collage of two photos of her before and after gaining weight to share a story about body positivity. She wrote in the caption, "The left side was me at the start of the peak of my career."
She admitted that she was excited about a New York Fashion Show that she had been preparing for until one night she fainted in her apartment after starving and eating 500 calories a day. She said she decided after that night to give up the strict diet and workout and start eating a little bit more.
"I thought to myself, I can still be this thin, but I'll just eat a little more so I don't feel horrible," she said on her Instagram. But it turned out, Golden began eating more than she expected and it "turned into a full blown binge."
Liza started to lose control over her diet while preparing for New York Fashion Week. She recalled that no one noticed the weight gain during NYFW, but when it was her turn to walk for London Fashion Week, her weight gain began to be apparent. She kept gaining weight until she reached a 35.5in from 34.5in hip size during Milan Fashion Week when she received harsh criticisms online for her thighs "looking fat."
She finally decided to quit her modeling career. In 2014, she started to try to get in shape again by working out without starving herself. Liza Golden began eating 800-1200 calories a day and started to be the fittest in her career but still wasn't fit enough for big brands like Victoria's Secret.
She then went to travel to India where she met her now husband and quit. Liza recalled that she finally went to the point that she finally tries to go back to the modeling industry without forcing herself to fight against her body. She is now living a healthy lifestyle, where she exercises five times every week and eat what she wants.
"Maybe I wasn't made to be on the covers of magazines and shooting the biggest brands," she said. Liza Golden-Bhojwani continued, "maybe I was made to share this story and spread the message of body love to all women out there struggling."
