Warner Bros. just released the first exclusive images of the big screen reboot of the famous 2013 video game "Tomb Raider" starring Alicia Vikander who will portray the role of the iconic character 'Lara Croft'.
According to NY Daily News, the first look revealed Vikander in the signature tank top and cargo pants of Lara, appearing both dirty and messy in the forest and fighting an unknown assailant. The movie tells the story of a 21-year-old Croft, who is looking for her lost father in the forest and lands to somewhere off the coast of Japan.
As reported by GQ Magazine, this is the second time someone is portraying the role of Lara on the big screen. The first time was of course 15 years ago when Oscar Winner Angelina Jolie portrayed the role and reprised it in the sequel in 2003. Both the movies received negative reviews and it is now on the shoulder of 28-year-old Vikander to provide a version that could match the expectation of the 2013's video game developed by Crystal Dynamics.
The movie is directed by Roar Uthaug and also stars Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu and Dominic West. The filming is currently going on in South Africa, which will then be shifted to London, as stated by Uthaug. "We drew many inspirations and reference from the game and the whole Tomb Raider world and I believe the fans will love it. It is a story that not only highlights Lara's incredible physical accomplishments but her emotional aspects as well, said Vikander.
"Alicia Vikander brings tremendous depth and vulnerability to the character, which is very important for Lara's fierce strength, physicality, and determination. Our film follows the story of Lara from the origin and after facing many challenges in the way, she ultimately becomes Tomb Raider," said Graham King, the producer of the film, reports Vanity Fair.
"Tomb Raider" is scheduled to premiere on March 16, 2018.
