US President Donald Trump hits back on the music video on Wednesday that shows rapper Snoop Dogg pointing a fake gun at a clown character parodying the president. On his Twitter account, Trump wrote, "Can you imagine what the outcry would be if @snoopDogg, failing career and all, had aimed and fired the gun at President Obama? Jail time!."
As reported by Daily Mail, the satirical 'Lavender' video by the legendary rapper features a character named 'Ronald Klump' resembling the president and makes references to race issues such as the immigration and police killings of unarmed black people. At the end of the video, Dogg points a toy gun at Klump and pulls the trigger, which releases a flag sign stating 'Bang'.
The condemnation was followed by Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, who called the video 'totally disgraceful' in an interview with celebrity website TMZ. "It doesn't matter who the president is, Trump, Obama or anyone else, it is just plain wrong," said Cohen.
According to the Guardian, the advocate further added that the 45-year-old singer should apologize to the President as there is nothing funny about an assassination video on a president, stating that he thought Dogg was a better man. Republican senator Marco Rubio also supported the statement from Cohen and said if was wrong of Dogg to do that.
"We have already had an assassination of a president before in our country, so anything like this is something we must be careful about," said Rubio. To his defense, Snoop Dogg claimed that he wasn't looking for a controversy with the video. "I believe that lot of people are having fun in making records and partying that no one dealing with the real issue with this f**king clown as president and what black people are dealing with," said Dogg in an interview with Billboard.
"When I be putting shit out, I don't ever look for a reaction. I just put it out because it's something that is missing," the rapper further added.
