Jay Z Becomes First Rapper In Songwriters Hall Of Fame

Jay Z is the first rapper to ever be inducted into the US Songwriters Hall of Fame, and he seems to be over the moon about it. The proof: he tweeted.

Unlike many celebrities nowadays, the rapper does not engage in social media too often, which is why his tweet proved his excitement. "This is a win for us. I remember when rap was said to be a fad. We are now alongside some of the greatest writers in history," he said.

There have also been reports saying that a handful of artists are considered every year for their songwriting and music, which are said to have "enriched the world's culture." According to BBC News, this is especially a big deal, because as Jay Z himself mentioned, the list is filled with the greats, including Marvin Gaye, Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton, Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson.

However, no rapper has ever been inducted before, ensuring that Jay Z has made history by being the first one on the list. Nile Rodgers of Chick noted that the induction is a massive success, as Jay Z "changed the way that we listen to music."

The New York Times noted that Jay Z also holds the record for a solo artist with 21 No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, and this induction is only the latest in what seems to be a good month for him and his family - In early February, he and his wife, Beyonce, announced that they are expecting twins.

"With our 2017 roster of inductees, the Songwriters Hall of Fame moves definitively into recognizing music creators of the 21st century while continuing to honor the greats of earlier decades," SHOF co-chairs Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff told the Guardian.

Also inducted with Jay Z are Max Martin, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Berry Gordy and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Also in the list are three members of Chicago - Robert Lamm, James Pankow and Peter Cetera.
