The 'Art' Of The Selfie: Are Millennials Getting Plastic Surgery To Look Better In Social Media Pics?

Taking selfies is a daily habit for the typical Millennial, but capturing that perfect pic may require more than just the right camera angle.

Imperfections appear more pronounced through the camera lens, so many Millennials are turning to cosmetic surgery to enhance their appearance and correct them.

Now we understand how the age of social media and the power of the selfie can cause a lot of self analysis and likely tons of pics before you finally choose the right one to post, but this obsession isn't only in our head. The struggle for the perfect selfie is real!

A recent study from The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reveals an increased demand for cosmetic surgery and injectables like Botox, in people under the age of 30! Is it really that serious? Apparently so.

This need to look good for social media prompted us to get the scoop on the five most popular surgical procedures and non-surgical treatments some Millennials are now turning to for those perfect selfie moments.

We asked Dr. Sofer, a double board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery to give us the 411 behind these procedures:

Botox or Dysport. Botox and Dsyport are among the most popular injectables on the market and can be very effective for erasing the appearance of wrinkles and lines. Just don't attend a Botox party to try it.

Chemical Peels. An uneven complexion, rough skin texture, and blemishes can be treated with this method.

Eyelid Lift. OMG, probably the craziest and most risky, this procedure helps create a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance if done right.

Dermal Fillers. For everyone who was down to try the Kylie Jenner Challenge, this is much safer. From lip augmentation procedures to enhancing the cheeks, dermal fillers can help to maintain a youthful look.

Liposuction. Just in case waist cinching and corset training isn't getting you the results you want, there's always this. Excess fat around the jawline, upper arms, or around the hips is typically enhanced in a candid photo. Patients who want a more streamlined look can turn to lipo of the face or body to achieve a more attractive contour.
