After briefly dating a few years ago, Mindy Kaling and her ex-boyfriend BJ Novak are getting back together for an appearance at BookCon 2015. It will be interesting to see the two reunite to talk about "The Mindy Project" actress' book, but it's more intriguing to hear what the actress is saying about her relationship with her co-star and dating complications.
The 35-year-old actress talked to InStyle magazine about her former co-star and what it was like dating him.
"I will freely admit: My relationship with B.J. Novak is weird as hell," said Kaling, who is featured on the cover of the June 2015 issue. "He is not my boyfriend, but he is not my best friend. I guess you could describe out relationship as a 'romantically charged camaraderie with loud argument,' but I don't think Facebook would accept this as a new status."
Despite the arguments, the two have apparently remained friendly towards one another. On "Watch What Happens Live" in 2014, Novak stated that they "fought a lot. We were each other's best friends. We were inseparable and not talking to each other, often on the same day. And people didn't know, if she was gone, they would ask me where she was, and vice versa. We were like E.T. and Elliott a little bit."
In September, Kailing told Howard Stern on his radio show that her ex-boyfriend was the one who initiated the breakup, but would have married him if he had proposed.
"I don't have a particular urge to get married," said Kaling to InStyle. "But I do know with certainty that I want to have kids, because my relationship with [my mom] was so special."
Novak and Kaling will come together on May 30 for BookCon 2015 to talk about her autobiography "Why Not Me?" moderated by her fellow author and former "The Office" co-star. The event will take place at 11 a.m. at New York City's Javits Center.
"As witnessed by the success of their books and on-screen work, Mindy and B.J. are two of the most inventive and original comedic minds in Hollywood," said Brien McDonald, BookCon show manager, to Hollywood Reporter. "Kicking off BookCon with their witty exchanges will be an unforgettable moment for fans to experience and set the stage for the rest of our programming perfectly."
Kaling and Novak will kick off BookCon with their panel discussion. They joined the lineup of already-announced BookCon panels with Julianne Moore, Nick Offerman, Taye Diggs, Leigh Bardugo, Meg Cabot and Marissa Meyer.
"Novak's published work includes his short story collection 'One More Thing: Stories and Other Stories' and his hit children's book 'The Book with No Pictures,'" wrote Hollywood Reporter.
Kaling's book will hit shelves Sept. 29 after releasing her 2011 bestseller, "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)."
