Tiger Woods confirmed on Friday his participation in the forthcoming 2015 Masters Golf Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club.
"I'm playing in the Masters," Wood wrote on his webpage.
"I've worked a lot on my game and I'm looking forward to competing. I'm excited to get to Augusta and I appreciate everyone's support," he added.
Following this statement, the former NCAA golf champ was seen playing 18 holes on the course.
Woods was seen practicing in Augusta National earlier this week, so his announcement did not come as a surprise to his fans, E! News has learned.
Woods entered just two tournaments this year, ESPN reported.
The former world number one missed the cut at the Waste Management Phoenix in January and withdrew from the Farmers Insurance Open after just 11 holes, with a back injury in February.
Since then, the 39-year-old golfer has not played in a professional competition.
"He's said all along he's going to come back when he feels comfortable. He gave me a call today and said I'm going to play next week," Mark Steinberg, Woods' agent, told ESPN.
"He makes firm decisions. There was no debating or going back and forth. Only he could determine when he would come back. This was going to be completely 100 percent his decision," Steinberg added.
According to BBC Sport golf correspondent Iain Carter, "It will be 62 days since his last competitive golf when Woods tees off at Augusta on Thursday. It is asking an awful lot for him to contend given the backdrop to his comeback."
"The course will make tough demands on his shaky short game and he has played only 47 holes on the PGA Tour this year. His return, though, adds further lustre to what is already an eagerly anticipated Masters," he added.
Woods' last played in the 2013 Masters where he finished fourth.
The 2015 Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta will kick off on April 9.
