"Maybe This Time" songstress Liza Minnelli has had a serious battle against substance abuse in the past. This week, the 68-year-old actress-singer is once again pitted against the same struggle.
Scott Gorenstein, a spokesman for Minnelli, revealed Wednesday that the "Cabaret" star has apparently checked into a rehabilitation facility, according to People.
The facility's name was not revealed, but sources said Judy Garland's daughter entered a Malibu rehab and that she's been staying in the said facility for several days now.
TMZ sources said her main battle is her addiction to alcohol. In the past, she has received treatment for alcohol and painkiller abuse.
"Liza Minnelli has valiantly battled substance abuse over the years and whenever she has needed to seek treatment she has done so," Gorenstein said. "She is currently making excellent progress at an undisclosed facility."
In 2004, it was reported that Minnelli had a relapse from alcohol addiction.
Five years later, the legendary singer appeared on "Dateline NBC" and gushed about her battle with alcoholism, New York Daily News has learned.
"I mean, get away from the influence for a minute and you know you have a choice," she said at the time. "And here are the good things about it. This is a huge thing, this disease, but you can fight it with information and with clarity."
In 2002, Minnelli's divorce from fourth husband David Gest became controversial after the latter revealed that they had alcohol-fueled fights during their marriage.
In 1984, the "New York, New York" star created a huge buzz when she got treated for alcohol and prescription drug addiction.
One of Minnelli's closest friends recently revealed that she maybe following the footsteps of her mother, who died in 1969 due to an overdosage of sleeping pills.
"She's living her mother's career all over again - being the biggest star in show business, peaking out in films, the weird marriages, the pills, the booze," Minnelli's friend said.
Because of her scandalous battle with substance abuse, Minnelli was offered half a million to do a reality show entitled "Celebrity Rehab" back in 2010. However, she didn't consider the offer.
Minnelli is best known for her performance in "Cabaret," for which she brought home an Oscar in 1973, reports CNN.
