"Breaking Bad" actor Bryan Cranston starred in one of the five 2015 Super Bowl ads of Esurance car insurance. Titled "Sorta You Isn't You," the campaign shows how the company offers insurance quotes tailored to every consumer's needs.
In the Esurance Super Bowl ad, Cranston channels his "Breaking Bad" character Walter White. Wearing a yellow meth lab hazmat jumpsuit and gas mask, he plays a drug lord called a "Sorta Pharmacist" working behind the counter at a pharmacy.
The "Breaking Bad" spinoff called "Better Call Saul" is also about to premiere but it is yet to be confirmed when Cranston's character will appear.
While this is Esurance's first time to advertise on the Super Bowl, it secured five spots for its "Sorta You Isn't You" campaign over the next three months. Two of these were already aired: Cranston's ad as a "Sorta Pharmacist" and another commercial featuring Lindsay Lohan as a "Sorta Mom."
One of the three remaining Esurance 2015 Super Bowl ad will star someone who is not a celebrity to play "Sorta Teacher." It will make its debut on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live."
"Consumers expect to be treated as individuals, even when we buy insurance. We're giving them that AHA moment with the campaign," Esurance chief marketing officer Alan Gellman told Advertising Age.
Gellman explained that innovative brands do not simply repeat what has been done before, and Esurance is going to "up the ante" in 2015 by "being in game." He refused to divulge the budget of the campaign.
Meanwhile, the New England Patriots emerged victorious 28-24 over the Seattle Seahawks at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. This made the Patriots the sixth NFL franchise to win the Super Bowl at least four times, according to Forbes.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady also completed 37 of 50 passes for 328 yards with four touchdown passes and won his third Super Bowl MVP, ESPN reported.
