Johnny Depp has expressed his disdain for his fellow successful actors who dabble in music, according to a Sydney Morning Herald report.
The 51-year-old actor, who himself began his career in the entertainment business as a musician, made the remarks during the premiere of his latest movie "Mortdecai" in Berlin on Sunday.
"That whole idea for me is a sickening thing, it's always just made me sick," he said of actors who he said were "capitalizing" on their success in the film industry in their forays into music.
He bemoaned the endeavor, saying he himself would never launch his own music career even as he has played with a number of successful full-time musicians and even recorded with some.
"I've been lucky to play on friends' records and it's still going. Music is still part of my life... But you won't be hearing The Johnny Depp Band. That won't ever exist," he said.
Depp has played on albums by Oasis and recorded and performed with Marilyn Manson, most recently in November, Hollywood Reporter notes.
The actor also performed an extended blues jam with Paul McCartney along with several blues musicians in September and appeared on the music icon's music video for his 2012 song "My Valentine."
"The kind of luxury now is, anybody with a certain amount of success, if you have a kind of musical being, you can go out and start a band and capitalize on your work in other areas. But I hate the idea, 'Come see me play the guitar because you've seen me in 12 movies.' It shouldn't be [that way]. You want the people who are listening to the music to only be interested in the music," he said.
Among the Hollywood actors who have launched musical projects are Russell Crowe, Robert Downey Jr., Zooey Deschanel and fellow "Mortdecai" star Gwyneth Paltrow.
