Nicki Minaj bared her soul in her latest LP, "The Pinkprint," in which the 32-year-old rapper touches upon a few sensitive subjects including her break-up with longtime partner Safaree Samuels and the abortion she had as a teenager.
The "Superbass" hitmaker, opened up further on the abortion in her latest interview with Rolling Stone magazine, in which she shows off her famous cleavage in a white tank top on the cover.
"One of my goals was to give people a glimpse into my personal life, because it's something I've kept very private," she said of her latest LP.
Minaj, who got pregnant while attending performing-arts high school LaGuardia in Manhattan, said being pregnant as a teen was "the hardest thing" she's ever experienced.
"I thought I was going to die," she told the magazine. "I was a teenager. It was the hardest thing I'd ever gone through."
The rapper ultimately chose to have an abortion, a subject she first revealed on a mixtape track titled "Autobiography" and later expanded upon in her single "All Things Go."
However, while she says abortion was the right decision for her back then, the choice still haunts her today, Daily Mail noted.
"It'd be contradictory if I said I wasn't pro-choice," she explained. "I wasn't ready. I didn't have anything to offer a child."
Another subject Minaj touched upon in her latest album was the end of her 11-year relationship with Samuels and the personal hardships she experienced following the split.
"I had to learn to do something as simple as sleep alone," she told Rolling Stone. "I struggled with 'Do I express these feelings?' And I decided there's no reason for me to hide. I'm a vulnerable woman, and I'm proud of that."
But while the rapper chose to give fans a glimpse of her vulnerable side in "The Pinkprint," she also didn't neglect her original mission of empowering women to be both sexy and smart.
"With a video like 'Anaconda,' I'm a grown-ass f--king woman!" she said of the controversial music video of her hit song.
She continued, "I stand for girls wanting to be sexy and dance, but also having a strong sense of themselves. If you got a big ol' butt? Shake it! Who cares? That doesn't mean you shouldn't be graduating from college."
