After more than 20 years together, Sir Elton John and his civil partner David Furnish were formally married during a ceremony held Sunday at their home in Windsor, Telegraph reported.
John and Furnish entered into a civil partnership with Furnish in 2005. Following the new ruling in Britain that deemed marriage between same-sex couples as legal, the couple was able to formalize their partnership through an official wedding ceremony held in the presence of 50 family members and close friends.
The couple first made mention of his wedding via his Instagram account, where he posted a photo of a rose-printed invitation. It was captioned with, "Please join us this Sunday @DavidFurnish and I will be posting special moments from our big day. #ShareTheLove"
The musician followed it up with more photos documenting the event, according to BBC.
A snapshot showed the ceremony just before it was due to start, captioning it with "The Registrar welcomes our guests." Another photo taken by the couple's son Zachary showed his brother Elijah standing between his fathers and John shared that "Zachary grabs David's iPhone and takes a photo of his brother while we change our vows."
Another photo showed a large bouquet of red roses, which the musician mentioned was also present at his and Furnish' civil partnership ceremony nine years ago. "They brought us so much luck," he wrote.
Each snapshot was accompanied by the hashtag #ShareTheLove, which John and his guests also used with their own posts.
Brooklyn Beckham, the eldest son of David and Victoria Beckham, even posted about the wedding on his Instagram. He posted a photo of him and his mother at the wedding and also the wedding menu and wrote, "Amazing day with family and special friends congratulations Uncle Elton and Uncle David #ShareTheLove."
Guests that were present at the event were the Beckham family, Ed Sheeran, David Walliams, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, Elizabeth Hurley and more.
