Bill Cosby is breaking his silence amid the rape allegations pressed against him in a recent interview with New York Post's Stacy Brown.
The 77-year-old iconic comedian told the reporter who frequently writes for the African-American media that he is encouraging the "back media" for neutrality in his case, Us Weekly reports.
"Let me say this. I only expect the black media to uphold the standards of excellence in journalism and when you do that, you have to go in with a neutral mind," Cosby said in the phone interview.
In the recent months, the TV personality is being plagued by a number of rape and sexual assault claims made by dozens of women, who are mostly celebrities.
One of the most recent allegations came from supermodel Beverly Johnson, who said that she was drugged by Cosby almost 30 years ago, adding "I feel that Cosby took my power that evening and that I took my power back."
As per Johnson's interview with Today's Tamron Hall, she has spoken out about what Cosby did to her so she can empower other victims to come forward and share their stories.
"This is bigger than Bill Cosby. This is about women and violence against women," she said. "This is about women finding their voice."
Apart from asking the "black media" to stay neutral, the stand-up performer also gushed on how thankful he is for his wife, Camille, who has remained by his side amid the controversy, according to People.
"Love and the strength of womanhood," he said. "Let me say it again, love and the strength of womanhood. And, you could reverse it, the strength of womanhood and love."
In the face of the rape and sexual assault accusations, Cosby's lawyer, Martin Singer, maintains that there is no truth in any of them.
"The new, never-before-heard claims from women who have come forward in the past two weeks with unsubstantiated, fantastical stories about things they say occurred 30, 40 or even 50 years ago have escalated past the point of absurdity," Singer said.
