Rapper Lil Wayne says he feels like a "prisoner" under the Cash Money Records label and he wants to be freed, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Wayne, 32, took to Twitter to announce his desire to leave the label he signed on to join when he was 9 years old. He also launched an imprint, Young Money - which catapulted Nicki Minaj and Drake to superstar status - under the label.
His latest and last solo studio effort "Tha Carter V," which was originally set for a May release and later given a Dec. 9 release has been pushed back again. Wayne says his label is to blame for the delay.
"To all my fans, I want u [sic] to know that my album won't and hasn't been released bekuz [sic] Baby & Cash Money Rec. refuse to release it," Wayne wrote.
Baby, according to the New York Times, is the label's chief executive Brian Williams.
He followed it with another tweet, saying: "This is not my fault. I am truly and deeply sorry to all my fans but most of all to myself and my family for putting us in this situation."
Wayne shared his frustration about the situation, saying: "I want off this label and nothing to do with these people but unfortunately it ain't that easy. I am a prisoner and so is my creativity. Again, I am truly sorry and I don't blame yea if ya fed up with waiting for me and this album. But thank you."
Wayne is not the only one dismayed with how his career is panning out under Cash Money. Rapper Tyga had previously spoken of his beef with the label according to MTV.
Tyga posted a series of tweets in October, explaining why his album "Gold" still doesn't have a release date.
"Gold album been done. My label holding me hostage so I can't release nothing. Might just leak it for my fans then let them make $ off it," he said.
