Oops! Sorry kids but "Red Band Society" isn't going to stay long. In fact, the medical drama is flat-lining ahead of its finale episode.
The inspiring medical drama that follows the lives of a group of teenagers confined in a pediatric ward of a hospital is reportedly on its death bed after Fox decided to stop the production of more episodes from the show, reports Entertainment Weekly.
While the show hasn't been technically canceled from airing its remaining episodes, the network has already confirmed that there will be no more additional episodes for the series, which only has 13 for its initial run, according to Zap2It.
"Red Band Society" will still air an episode this Wednesday night, with its fall finale set to air on Dec. 3. The last three episodes do not have find air dates yet.
Ramos that the show is headed for cancellation surfaced when Fox revealed its midseason schedule for its TV shows.
In the network’s announcement, it specified the return of “American Idol,” “The Following” and “Glee,” but it didn’t state anything on the return of the medical drama series following its winter hiatus.
Interestingly, Fox dished that there is still a light of hope for the show to return for a sophomore run on the air, TV Guide has learned.
For its premiere episode, the show raked in a modest figure of 4.1 million viewers and a 1.3 in the adults 18-49 demo rating. And while its ratings have since stabilized, they are just not enough to spare the show (at least for now). The show’s latest episode only drew 2.9 million viewers and a 0.9 rating in the demo.
Executived-produced by Steven Spiielberg, "Red Band Society" is the latest freshman series to air all of its freshman episodes amid struggling figures.
"Utopia" has already been canceled while the initial episode order for "Mulaney" has already been trimmed to 13 from its original 16.
So far, Fox's "Gotham" is its only new offering that has been picked up for a full season
