UNIQLO Opens Largest Megastore in Tokyo, Eyes Asia

UNIQLO, a Japanese clothing chain, is ready to sweep across Asia, as they newly opened the world's largest megastore in Tokyo on Friday.

The 12-floor store will showcase the full UNIQLO line-up of men's and women's wear, as well as children and babies.

Ginza, Tokyo, is seen as Japan's largest gateway to the global market, according to Tadashi Yanai, UNIQLO's chief executive.
"Opening a flagship store here is the first step to expand the busienss from here to the whole of Asia," said Yanai.

UNIQLO has opened megastores in major cities like New York, London and Paris. The brand's focus has now shifted to rapidly growing Asia, opening stores in Shanghai, Taipei and Seoul, reports AFP.

The brand's parent company Fast Retailing began in 1959 as a small clothing shop for men, and now boasts its position as one of Japan's most successful corporations, said AFP.

"We want to expand our stores to all the main cities in Asia," said Yanai, who is looking at 100 stores new stores across the continent by August 2012.

Its global expansion aims to reach global sales of $59.5 billion by 2020 and become the world's largest clothing retailer within the next decade.
