Fashion craze is spreading among men, and men's fashion sales is rising - at least in Canada.
According to new data from market researcher NPD Group unveiled this week, sales in the men’s clothing market increased 3 per cent, while overall apparel industry saw a drop, according to The Globe and Mail. Women’s apparel sales and children's wear sales dropped 4 per cent and 2 per cent respectively.
“Men have a pent-up need to update their wardrobes,” said Kathy Perrotta, director of fashion sales in Canada for NPD.
“They’re buying what they need and they’re not looking as much for [low] pricing or value consciousness as are women.”
Thanks to resources like online blogs, men have gained more open access to style tips. Being less sensitive to prices than women, men are more flexible in choosing more pricey items like leather bags, custom blazers and dress shirts.
Looking good as a guy "“has moved from the negative connotation of being a metrosexual … to it really being okay: George Clooney is now cool to guys. Mad Men, although not the newest of trends, is becoming more and more mainstream.” said Kyle Vucko, Indochico's CEO.
Following Canada, will the U.S. see the same rising trend of male fashionistas? If so, it will certainly be a significant factor for much-ndeeded economic boost.
