Andy Dick was arrested on one charge of grand theft felony but was released from Los Angeles County Jail after posting $25,000 bail, according to police and jail records. He is due to appear in court on Dec. 4.
Dick was reportedly riding his bike when he rode up to a man on Hollywood Boulevard and asked if he could check his necklace. The 48-year-old actor and comedian then rode off with the necklace after the man handed the piece of jewelry to him, TMZ reported.
In California, grand theft is defined as the illegal taking of another's property worth more than $950.
After the owner of the $1,000 jewelry reported the theft, the Los Angeles Police Department did not immediately find Dick until they located him in Hollywood shortly before midnight on Nov. 7, People reported.
The police refused to give further details of the actor's arrest, according to Reuters.
Dick's entertainment company, Pollywog Entertainment, and his lawyer, Mark Geragos, also have yet to release a statement about the arrest.
Prior to the arrest, Dick was previously been found guilty of drug possession and battery after having had a long battle with substance abuse.
In 2008, Dick was arrested for allegedly pulling down a teenage girl's top in a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant in California, and in 2010, he was detained after grabbing men's private parts in a bar in West Virginia.
In 2011, Dick was also arrested for "disorderly conduct" at a restaurant in Temecula, Calif.
From 1995 to 1999, Dick starred in "Newsradio." In 2009, he appeared on "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew," the TV show that chronicles celebrities struggling with substance abuse.
More recently, Dick appeared on the second season of "Celebrity Wife Swap" with Lorenzo Lamas and on the 16th season of "Dancing With The Stars," which was won by "American Idol" alum and country music singer Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough.
Dick was partnered with former "DWTS" troupe member Sharna Burgess. They finished seventh.
