In the Season 3 premiere of "Elementary" aired on Oct. 30, Joan's (Lucy Liu) new boyfriend, Andrew (Raza Jaffrey) was introduced, and since then fans have been wondering how Sherlock (Jonny Lee Miller) would react when he finally met his former partner's beau.
The much awaited meeting between the two male characters is part of the upcoming Nov. 13 episode of the crime drama series, and it might not be as awkward as what viewers expect.
"Because Sherlock does not have romantic feelings for Joan, it's not as uncomfortable as it might be," series' creator and executive producer Rob Doherty told TVLine. "I would say a year ago, he may have seen Andrew as a threat to the partnership and to the work that they do. But for having gone down the road that he did, knowing that he made some mistakes when he left for London, he's hardly in a position to be judgmental of the relationship."
Miller also told Entertainment Weekly that though Holmes is "trying to be as calm as possible" after learning about Andrew, he is not pleased that Joan has found a new man in her life. "It's an annoyance," the 41-year-old actor said.
And since Joan and Andrew's relationship blossomed in Sherlock's absence, the 45-year-old "Kill Bill" actress said that the first meeting between the sleuth and her new beau was really interesting.
"There are funny moments [when Andrew first meets Sherlock] that create that conflict and tension that the audience wants to see," the actress told EW. "We'll see what happens to [Andrew] in the end, but right now he's very clearly somebody that brings her a great deal of joy. There's not a lot of corruption there."
"It's a relationship that's fairly new and gives her a nice balance," Liu told TV Guide of her characters new romance.
"Andrew is part of a larger plan to really ground Joan as we come into the season," Doherty told EW. "She has, in Sherlock's absence, come back down to earth and built up a pretty stable and sturdy and normal life."
"Elementary" airs Thursdays at 10:00 p.m. ET on CBS.
