What makes "John Wick" unique is that it is "a little more intimate and objective" than a typical action film and it is "not just visceral action," according to its lead actor Keanu Reeves in an interview with Indie Wire.
For Reeves, viewers of "John Wick" can believe what they are seeing and it is not just sound and fury.
Viewers can also expect to see the fluidity and what the characters are doing, such as "that one hall shot where they're wrestling, and he just comes through and pounds a knife into the other guy's chest. There's no cut," the 50-year-old actor explained.
"It's the world they've created and the vision of the story. The shooting style: the colors, the way they shoot the action. They're doing wide shots, not a lot of cuts. They're wanting the action to unfold in front of you as opposed to changing perspectives. That feels different," he added.
Since "John Wick" is an independently produced film, Reeves said "it sucks" that he no longer gets big-budget studio movie offers although he does not necessarily prefer studio films over independent films.
The last studio movie he did was the 2013 Carl Rinsch-directed samurai flick "47 Ronin" opposite Japanese actors Hiroyuki Sanada and Ko Shibasaki.
"You can have positive and negative experiences, but what I like about studios are the resources and the worlds that they can create. Even when I was working on studio movies more often, I was always doing independent movies," Reeves commented.
Reeves may also reprise his role in the studio film franchise "Bill & Ted" in its third installment, which is yet to be finalized.
"There's a script, and we're trying to get dough and rights," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "Once it became real, I'd have to look at it."
In another interview with Movie Fone, Reeves admitted he wanted to play some superhero roles from the past decade so he is "just enjoying them as an audience."
While he never played the Dark Knight and Wolverine, which he always wanted to, he described "X-Men" franchise star Hugh Jackman as "a great Wolverine."
