George Harrison's Childhood Home Fetches $250,000 At Cavern Club Auction

The childhood home of The Beatles' George Harrison in Liverpool, England was sold for £156,000, or $250,000, at an auction held at the iconic Cavern Club in the city, Billboard reports.

Jackie Holmes, the winning bidder, bought the house at 25 Upton Street in Speke after failing to snag John Lennon's house at 9 Newcastle Road in Wavertree at an auction in October last year. Lennon's house fetched $770,000.

"I'm absolutely thrilled. This was the house where the Beatles rehearsed and now I own it.  I missed out on John Lennon's house last year, so this is just a dream come true," said Holmes, who traveled from north London to be at the auction.

Harrison lived in the house from the age of six, when his parents moved into the council house in 940, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The house is a three-bedroom mid-terrace, where Harrison, Lennon and Paul McCartney would rehearse before they found fame and success. The family lived there until the early 1960s, says The Independent.

"This has got more historical importance, this is the rehearsal house, this is the house that George was a Beatle in and I'm just absolutely made up to have this property," the 47-year-old Holmes said.

Holmes was vying for the house against an American bidder, who was on the phone, and another reserve bidder in Liechtenstein.

"I can't tell you how happy I am right at this moment. I've been a real fan now for about 30 odd years, I've collected Beatles memorabilia. I've seen George Harrison live at the Albert Hall. Basically, I've seen all The Beatles live except for John, sadly, so to own an ex-house of theirs with a historical connection is just fantastic," she said.

Holmes said she also plans to rearrange one of the room so that it is back to the way it was in the 1960s.
