NBC has inked a commitment to air a "Marley & Me" TV series pilot, Entertainment Weekly has confirmed.
The TV series will serve as a sequel to the 2008 comedy-drama film that starred Owen Wilson and "Friends" alum Jennifer Aniston.
While the "Marley & Me" film was based on John Grogan's best-selling novel of the same name, the script of the TV series sequel will be written by Emmy-winning scriptwriter Jenny Bicks, who wrote for "Sex and the City" from 1998 to 2004.
Bicks will also executive produce the series with its director David Frankel and the 2008 film's producer Karen Rosenfelt, Deadline has learned.
Also starring Eric Dane, Kathleen Turner, Alan Arkin, Nathan Gamble and Haley Bennett, the "Marley & Me" movie was about a couple named John and Jenny Grogan taking in a stray puppy named Marley as they consider parenthood.
The couple was forced to adopt the puppy after it ended up on their doorstep. The puppy went on to get involved with the lives not only of the Grogan family but also of the neighbors and other dog owners around them.
The TV series sequel will pick up where the film left off, which features the couple played by Wilson and Aniston and their three children aged 16, 13 and 6 moving back to Florida so that Wilson's character can have his job as a newspaper columnist again.
Further details of the "Marley & Me" sequel are yet to be released.
There are still no confirmation about the cast members and whether or not Wilson and Aniston are reprising their roles.
Recently, Wilson starred in Peter Bogdanovich's comedy film "She's Funny That Way" opposite Imogen Poots, which was privately screened at the Toronto Film Festival, Pan American reported.
Grossing $243 million dollars, the "Marley & Me" movie was a box-office hit and won several nominations and awards including Choice Movie: Bromantic Comedy at Teen Choice Awards in 2009.
