Courtney Love Says Smashing Pumpkins Hit Songs Are About Her

Hole frontwoman Courtney Love has claimed that Smashing Pumpkins' hits were written about her by frontman and chief songwriter Billy Corgan, reports Spin.

Love, who dated Corgan before marrying Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, has also claimed during an interview with BBC 6 Music that Smashing Pumpkins "stopped making hits" when Corgan ceased writing songs about her.

Answering the question whether there was any Smashing Pumpkins song she considered her favorite, she said: "Yeah, loads, because there are so many of them that are about me. 'Siamese Dream,' 'Bodies,' 'Today,'" she enumerated. "[Corgan] stopped writing about me and he stopped making hits," Love said.

"'Where Boys Fear to Tread' was about me and [Nine Inch Nails'] Trent [Reznor] and how we was mad about that," she said.

She went on to say that the band's 1993 album "Siamese Dream" is about her, according to 106.5 The Buzz.

"There's one on 'Siamese Dream' called 'Spaceboy' - that's about his brother, but the rest are all pretty much about me," she declared.

She also admitted in the interview that she copied most of her stage moves from  Echo & the Bunnymen frontman Ian McCulloch and REM's Michael Stipe, NME reports.

"Everything, I stole every move from [McCulloch]. Between Stipe and McCulloch, I've stolen every move they make," she said, explaining that she used to watch Echo & the Bunnymen rehearse.

Meanwhile, Love recently announced she will be playing the lead role in an opera titled "Kansas City Choir Boy," according to NME. The show will run from January 8 to 17, 2015 at the Manhattan Art Centre.

"I love the concept, and I'm loving the music. I'm playing it constantly. I'm looking to do things that are different," she told Rolling Stone. "I just finished a rock tour of Australia, and it was great, but I've been doing that for a long time. I wanted to do something challenging."
